Ignorance is bliss -- this character does justice to that sentiment in the French movie "Dinner Game".
Especially pleasing in this film are the contrasts. On the one hand, we have Parisian sophisticates living sumptuously, flaunting their intelligence. On the other, we have an obese simpleton who makes up in benevolence what he lacks in alacrity.
Perhaps we underestimate him though. Pignon’s apparent stupidity completely disarms his assailants. In “Trojan horse” manner, the idiot infiltrates Brochant’s life, gathering business intelligence better than the EIU could. The discoveries he makes are startling, and his “unintentional” interference is first rate. By the night’s end, Brochant has no choice but to befriend our portly ignoramus and presumably publish his book about match-stick models.
Come to think of it, gathering business intelligence for real-live business purposes could be just as entertaining – using the same strategy.
